Stationed in Afghanistan and trying to eat well. Doing much better since my supplments arrived. According to my diet I should have 35 grams of fat in my diet. I am falling short sometimes by 10-20 grams a day. I'm also trying to get my fat intake to include "good" fats. My question is it ok that I am falling a little short on my fats? Any help would be appreciated.

it's pretty easy if you eat some nuts. 1/4th cup (1 oz) of cashews has close to 15g of fat if my memory serves me right. i buy the 32 oz thing of cashews at walmart for like 10 bucks. so that'd be all you'd need each month to make up that 10-20g of fat you're missing.
if that's too hard to get your hands on there, i imagine peanut butter should be aquireable. 2 tablespoons would be the same equivalent of the 1/4th cup of nuts. hope that helps.

Try to get your fats from EFA's. Omega 3's.

Are EFA's, Omega 3s found in trail mix? We have tons of unsalted trail mix here. I ordered some flax/fish oil caps. I was told that will help. Do I take the caps for my fat intake or are they just supplaments in addition to?

in coordination with. a fish/flax oil pill is about 1g of fat, so you'll need to eat some foods with healthy fats in conjunction with taking your fish oil.

EFA's and Omega 3 are found in almonds, natural peanut butter, fish, these are just a few examples, do a search on here for more info..

Most nuts are very low in Omega 3's. Walnuts are the highest in Omega 3's of nuts. Fish or flax oil would be ideal, fish oil being best.
Our typical diet is so heavy in Omega 6 that we could probably conciously avoid them for a long time, probably a year and still not be deficient.
