I want to really understand how muscles grow larger. Someone told me that when you work out, what you are really doing is literally tearing muscle tissue, damaging it. That's why you are sore after lifting. Later your body repairs this muscle back to where it was plus adds a little more to compensate for the new damand on the muscle; so technically muscles don't get larger during workouts but rather while you are resting them over the next few days. This is why you can't keep working the same muscle group everyday? If this is so, how long does a muscle group need to rest? My program from this site says once a week - chest every Monday, shoulders every Tuesday, etc. This seems to make sense but is it true?
