Hi. I'm 23, 171cm and 52kg. I'm underweight and have stick arms and legs. But my waist and thighs are my fatty areas. I was a plump kid but went through a period of aneroxia where I went down to 43kg. I then tried to muscle up and followed plans and all but didn't eat much as I was worried I'd not lose my waist fat. I now realized that I need to first gain weight as I am tired of having thin hands and a caved in chest. I've gained 2kgs in about 2 months and plan to stop at 60kg. I've stopped any cardio, besides skipping a bit before working out. I'm a grad student and I'm mostly sedentary, haha but I do move about at times. I've read that I only have to eat more now and lift wieghts. Anything else I can do? Is there any specific work out plan I could follow? I am afraid of putting more fat around my waist, though.
Am I on the right track? Any advice? Thank you. :-)

Pick the mass gain program here, then figure out a healthy eating plan. See how your body responds - it will take a while to get back into a normal metabolic function, in my guesstimation, because of all of your past yo-yo dieting, etc.

I would do a program centered around heavy compound lifts....something like

Squats
Lunges
Culf Raises

Standing Military Presses
Chin Ups
Dips

Deadlifts
Bent Over Rows
Heavy Standing Rope Crunches

do 3 sets of 5... take about 2-5 min ebtween heaviest sets...do some warm up sets

KEY for you will be eating more. 5-10 meals a day easy. This includes frequent healthy snacking. Increase carbs and healthy fats. Eat bodyweight of protein in lb. It definitely takesa lot of effort and dedication.

Use Barbells for main exercises. Use pulldown station(much harder of the two) or high pulley station for rope crunches....do calf raises either with barbell on your back or you can do other sitting variations....
