Has anyone had this problem? When I start a fitness routine after being inactive for a while I find I get a lot of headaches. Its hard to walk fast and run and jump up and down when my head is pounding. When I do something which gets my heartrate up it makes my headache worse. Should I just keep going and take the pain? Does anyone know what's going on here?

There are many things that can cause headaches. Especially with exercise. You may be dehydrated and need water. Or your diet may not consist of the nutrients you need to sustain you both physically and mentally. What are your daily eating/drinking habbits?

It could be your just straining yourself. I know when I started working out, I wanted to be all "macho" and so i worked with weights that were too heavy and ended up with a headache.

Thank you for your help. It wasn't easy to figure out what I've actually been eating and drinking during the times I got headaches. Sometimes I get a headache from just thinking about getting on my treadmil! So I don't think I'm overdoing it.

This is what my diet it like at the moment, is this ok?
I drag myself out of bed and drink a cup of hot tea with sweetner (splenda). By the time that little bit of caffene has kicked in I'm conscious enough to work the espresso machine and I make myself a coffee which I have with equal. I'm not a morning person and I NEED my caffene fix to get me alive. When I get hungry about mid-morning I eat some egg-white scrambled egg or non-fat cottage cheese, sometimes with a slice of whole grain bread, usually rye but with no butter.

Throughout the day I drink tea with splenda. I know I should drink water but I hate it and I figure that the tea is made of water and I drink it very weak.

I just filled a one liter bottle with water and sat it on my kitchen counter...I can feel it staring at me.

I take vitamins and extra vit C. I drink a little freshly squeezed fruit and veg juice but not a lot because I don't need all that sugar. For dinner at night I eat lots of microwaved vegetables...no butter, some lean protein like chicken breasts and sometimes some carbs like brown rice or potatoes with their skins or cous cous. I eat an apple a day!!

I'm a chocoholic and some nights I just NEED a fix, so I make chocolate milk with not much low fat milk and spoon the sludge from the bottom of the glass into my mouth when I'm done. I never get more than a couple of teaspoons though, but it seems to get me through the night.

I've just started doing beginners pilates. I did half an hour on friday and then again on Sunday. I had a headache all weekend but now its gone. I'm a bit scared to do some cardiovascular in case it comes back.

The lack of water is a problem. You need to drink straight water. Probably not the cause of headaches, but drinking tea all day with sweetners is not helping you physically. Your protein and carb sources are good though. Just need to get rid of the chocolate and drink more water. Also make sure you are eating every 3 hours and not just when you feel hungry and drink more WATER :). You'll eventually feel hungry every 3 hours and drink more water. Summary, eat good proteins/carbs/fats every 3 hours (fibrous carbs too!), drink more WATER, and see your Doctor about the headaches as well. Good luck!

Yes. Water, water, water, and more water. It cures more than just dehydration. In fact, my wife showed me an article in a Women's World that explained that drinking water cures headaches faster than any medication on the market. Water, water, water.

Also, for waking up in the morning, try an apple. Supposedly, apples wake you up fster than caffeine, and are much healthier as well.

I AM NOT A TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. I am simply passing along information that my wife read to me from her women's magazines. (I'm illegitamate. I can't read.)

Water, water, water. Also, when you are out for dinner, order water. It's better for you than Coke, and it'll save you $1.49 + tax + 15-20% tip. That's almost $2.00. How many waters would you need to drink to pay for a new tub of Whey Protein Powder?
