I was off today for President's Day and thought I would get an extra couple of hours sleep instead of getting up at 5:00am for my 5:30 workout.
For the first time in long while I actually had a meal before my workout. I had a 4 egg white omelet, 2 pieces of whole wheat bread and oatmeal. An hour later I was in the gym.
What a workout! The strength I had today was incredible compared to working out on an empty stomach.
My question is, am I doing myself a dis-service by working out first thing in the am? My schedule only permits me to do mornings and I do not have time to have a meal before I leave. Is there anything I can take like 15 minutes before I workout? I have no real time to digest.
Right now I only suck down an 8oz whey with skim milk and walkout the door.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Always "fuel" yourself before a workout. You are for sure doing yourself a disservice if you are trying to gain muscle working out on an empty stomach. Make your meal up at night if you have to, stick it in the microwave in the morning and down it. Or, make it into a shake. For instance, put your whey, oatmeal, eggwhites, and some peanut butter(natural) or a banana in a blender and chug it down. Go train.

bb1- sorry responding so late. So your suggesting that it is ok to eat let's say 15 minutes before training? Is that enough time to wait?
Also, what's the biggest disadvantage to not eating and training first thing in the morning? Is it more for energy/strength purposes or am I actually eating away at the muscles as the body looks for sources of energy?
It's pretty intersting since I consider myself a "slow grower" when it comes to building size.
Let me know - Thanks
