alright, lately i have broken out of a major plateau with my lifting and i feel like now is the time to set some new goals for myself. i want to share these with the ft community so i'll be accountable for what i say i'm going to do!

by may 31 (which also happens to be my 22nd birthday:)) i will do the following:

1) add 15 lbs to my 5 rep max on ez bar curls (80), incline press (105) and machine pulldowns (160). *target weights are in parentheses*

2) do 6 reps of dumbbell shoulder presses with 45lb weights.

3) do 4 sets of 2 reps at 135 on bench press.

4) do 10 reps of lateral dumbbell raises with 15lb weights (this is still pretty low, i know, but i have to be careful with the rotator cuff. to put it in perspective, when i started my rehab i couldn't do 10 reps with a 3lb weight:))

5) get leg work back into my regular routine after taking time off to heal the sprained knee.

i've been working on making my own routine to reach this, but any suggestions are welcome. i might need some motivation every now and again so i keep on track with this. i'll be hitting it hard come monday. i will make every single one of these!

here's an update after week 1...

i hit 5 reps of 150 on machine pulldowns and then 3 of 170 so 160 is already in my reach.

i made 6 reps of 97 on the hammer strength incline press, and 3 reps of 65 on barbell preacher curls, so those are coming along as well. on the curls i had only been able to get up to 6 reps of 55 before.

i did isolation work with 35s on dumbbell shoulder press this week, but i had a little trouble so i need to stay focused on the shoulders.

on the bench press i did 4 reps of 122 on the hammer machine, then did 1 rep of 135 on the bench and 18 partial reps at 135 to get my body used to the weight.

i met goal #4 on monday, but i've been having some pain around the rotator cuff so i'm not going to push getting that one up anymore. i don't want to keep myself from reaching the other goals.

i did a lot of squats, leg extensions, and straight-leg dead lifts this week to jump-start my legs. they feel sore, but great.

that's my progress for the week, i'll update again soon so you'll know if i'm slacking

hey howdiekat - good goals!! I am going to have to hit it to stay one step ahead of you.

My lat pulldown is an ego buster - I could do 140 on th eone at the gym, mine it is like 90 for reps. I think it is the number of pulleys, angle, etcetera. Stil makes me feel weak! One arm db rows w/45s, though.

Isn't it nice to put the wheels on the bar and bench? Not to many girls doing that! I remember the first time I did 6 reps w/135. Man, what a day! I had a bit of help from my spotter, but now I do it all on my own and I am mioving up... very cool.

Be careful with your cuffs!!! Continue the exercises they had you do for rehab (the inner and outer rotation with a band) it will help a lot.

Keep updating us!!!

No kidding. I keep trying to track her workouts so I know what I have to do in the gym that day. My ego grows everyday, I just don't know about how my muscle is keeping up.

time for weekly update #2...

i set new pr's this week in incline bench and flat bench, but i was on the hammer machine because i didn't have a spotter. anyway, the numbers were 142 on the flat bench for 2 reps and 117 on the incline bench for 1 rep.

i did trisets with my back, bi's and tri's this week because i went out of town and wanted to have a super hard workout to make up for my slacking when i came back. it was nice. my routine is in my training log

i did a shoulder workout that andrew posted a while back to try and get some strength boosts in that area. they were sore for a few days, especially my in my traps. i'm going to go for 40s on the dumbbell presses this week and see how that goes. if i fall short on anything it's probably going to be my shoulders. i blame the nagging rotator cuff that's been hurt since i was 17.

legs were really hard this week, the knee kept making funny grinding and creaking noises.

also, one goal i didn't post was that i wanted to be able to do one overhand grip pull-up...today i did 2. always nice to get somewhere you've been trying to get for 7 months:big_smile:

more updates to come, i gotta get in gear - this is the last week i have no job obligations.

alright so i've been out of town for the past week and i've been off schedule with my workout and my posting, but there is good news...

i've made every goal except #2, and i'm blaming it on my rotator cuff. so happy birthday to me tomorrow because i'm excited that i actually made these. now it's time for the mutt challenge...WATCH OUT!

happy b-day howdie. that is good to hear. Don't worry about the rotator cuff...that'll come with time. I hope your gains keep coming for the challenge. Team Tex needs all the help it can get....Good Ol' Tex might be M.I.A. for the challenge. Seriously, I hope he gets better and can contribute to the challenge.

we'll definitely miss tex if his shoulder keeps him out, but if it does we'll have to win it all for him.
