I start the new workout and half way through my second to last set I get a sharp pain across my left shoulder blade. Guess I need to strech more.:)

opps, forgot to ask my question. Should I drop how many pounds I'm lifting the next time I try to do my lateral raises?

Depends. Were you able to lift however many pounds you lifted while you did the lateral raises? I would think that the sharp pain may be more due to improper form rather than not stretching or lifting too much weight. HOWEVER, that being said, if you are lifting too much, it's more difficult to keep proper form. Watch yourself in the mirror or pay attention. You should not be "flinging" your arms, or shrugging your shoulders when you do the raises. Nice smooth movements and if you can't, lift lighter. Does this make ANY sense? Good luck.

Yes it does make sense. It was the first time I've done the dumbell presses and lateral raises so I'm sure form has alot to do with it. I was thinking of droping the set that helped with the prob down by 5lbs and work on form.

set 1 - 20 reps of 5
set 2 - 16 reps of 10
set 3 - got 8 reps of 15 when it happened.

Thats after I did the presses of

20- 10 lbs
12- 10lbs
11- 15 lbs
10 20lbs

MY advice for laterals is go silly light. It took my years to get to using more than 25lbs....it is not a "power" or Heavy movement. I do not do them at al anymore...too much for my shouldres to take.

Big time, go light on the laterals. And as far as the stretching, your first set is the warm up (light weight, high reps). I don't agree with stretching before weight training, but that's me.
