Hi. I've been weight training for a few months now, 5 days a week, alternating lower and upper and throwing in abs a couple times a week along with yoga and cardio. I'm VERY bored with my workout and wanted to mix things up and decided that I'll follow the FT workout once I'm recovered from Mono. I entered that I'm intermediate level, and tried a workout for mass building and also for weight loss (both gave me about the same workout). My question is, that for a 5 day work out, it only has me working each muscle group once a week. Is this sufficient? I'm perfecly happy if it is, just want to be sure. Sorry if this has been asked before, couldn't find it in fitbuddy. Thanks!

Muscle mass workouts are designed to build muscle by lifting as close to your heavy limit as possible and doing fewer reps.
Muscle ONLY grows at rest. Hence the 5 to 7 days for recovery and growth. You need to think differently mass building than you do exercising for stamina.

Very good question cute little fireman.
Well charlie?
My guess would be to lift very heavy weights while jogging in place? ha ha.

Hi Mark, check out the FT exercise programs. The stamina and endurance programs will have higher reps, lower weight and less time before you repeat a movement ina certain body area.
With mass building the higher weights really pulverize and destroy muscle fiber necessitating a longer rest period to allow muscle rest and subsequent growth. In endurance training the lighter weights and higher reps don't damage the muscle fiber as severely and therefore don't require as much recovery time between movements. You may do curls 2 or 3 times in a week just as an example in endurance training.

More questions. I've got my FT program all printed and ready to go to the gym. Screw mono, I'm going back to the gym tomorrow. I'm feeling a lot better and am just tired of sitting on my butt! So, I've signed up for the 12 week ab program, as well as the thighs and glutes and calves program. My question is, what happens when you get through this set of workouts in 12 weeks or so? I assume you then go onto advanced (I signed up for intermediate) But what about when that program's done? Do you just start over again? My main question is the ab program. Once I get through the 12 weeks so I go back to week one, or do something else? Thanks!

Depends on your goals. You may want to use a weight loss and definition routine after mass building for 12 weeks. Don't forget to take a week or two off to grow. If you didn't bulk as much as you wanted to, you may want to do another 12 week programs. Remember one of the most important things you can do in training is keep your body guessing. Change is almost always good. Eat and rest properly.
You also need to be completely well before you work out kiddo.

Oh yeah, on the FT plans, I couldn't see much difference in the beginner, intermediate and advanced programs. They are very similar. I just used them long enough to learn to design a proper plan for myself.

I think that you could refer to Charlie as a boy or a buoy after his wood in the river incident! :) And yes Charlie, you are a cute little fireman too. ha ha.
