About six months ago I was playing for a womens professional football team and during one of the drills me and another girl went head on for a tackle my foot was planted and she pulled my body in the other direction so therefore my knee snap, crackled & popped. I went to the emergency room and asked if I needed x-rays and they said "NO" just put on this brace for a week or two and take motrin. Well, I did and then got back into boxing and still the pain persisted. Recently I was playing tennis and the same exact thing happend...ugghhh. Am I going to have this problem for ever now? Or is there something I can do about it? Still I am not sure what kind of knee injury it is.

A similar thing happened to me when I was in high school. I was limping around for quite a while though. Ended up being a torn meniscus, the cartilage behind your patella. It took a while to heal. I was out for a total of 3 weeks and it gave me some trouble for a couple weeks after I started playing again. I think that kind of injury is best healed by time.

Get it checked again, either by a specialist or general practitioner. I've seen emergency room doctors make some pretty sketchy diagnoses when it comes to knee injuries. They told my friend the same thing, but after a second opinion and an MRI two months later, they found torn ligaments and had to do surgery. Hope that doesn't scare you since yours doesn't sound as serious, but it won't hurt to get checked again.

When you have any injury always demand to have an MRI, not just an x-ray. An x-ray only senses bone and to a limited extent tendons. An MRI can sense bone and soft tissue injuries. Dont let the doctors treat you like idiots, that you know nothing.

First of all, ER docs are either fresh to the field, or not that good at all. SEE A SPECIALIST!!! Preferrably one who specializes in knees. Now this next part may be pre-mature because 6 months is NOT a long time for a joint injury. Particulary where the knee is involved. But her goes anyway. In high school (long time ago in a land far far away), I took a helmet to the knee. Dislocated the patella and contused the lower thigh. Nothing but trouble for years. Then I learned to play hockey (about 10 years after the fact). The stronger skated I became, the less and less it bothered me. the only thing I can figure is that the increased muscle mass from skating offered support that my knee itself could no longer give on it's own. Voila, no more pain! Another thing to remember (and this isn't easy), you will find that braces will be your friend. But DO NOT become dependant on them. Becoming over dependant on braces during strenous use, can (not always, but it can) open you up to increased injury during normal everyday use when not using them. Things like buckling, stumbling etc... Regardless, get yourself to a specialist first of all. Good luck.
