My leg muscles are extremely stiff, esp. after a leg workout. Furthermore, after squats etc., my lower back hurts.

I attribute the stiff muscles, and possibly the lower back pain, to my incredible inflexibility. The problem is, even though I stretch, i never seem to gain more felxibility and my muscles still feel tense/stiff.

I went to a yoga class for absolute beginners, but wasn't even flexible enough to do many of the stretches.

Any advice? I guess I need a stretching routine or something.

back the weight down and work form, your back shouldn't be sore from squats. have someone knowlegdable check your form.

Foam roller massage might help break up the stiffness, do some googling on it and find a few exercises you can do, if your gym doesn't hvae a foam roller, you can get one at most sporting goods stores, or i got mine at target.

Yoga might help, stick with it and you will get more flexible, you can't expect to be a master yogi thevery first class, lol.

How are your warm-ups for each exercise? do you do a couple sets to acclimate to the coming work or do you jump immediately to full workload? Might just be you need more warm-up.

I use to stretch a lot and it actually led to some problems...stretching is debated and I think will be one of thehot topics of debate in the coming years, some pros think you shouldn't stretch at all and others think a program is incomplete without stretching...I stretch if i have a muscle group that is really tight or that just won't loosen up, but otherwise i figure i am using full range of motion in my lifts, so my body is getting as stretched as it needs for my goals...

hope I helped instead of further confusing you :)
