A female friend of mine is 5'1 and is maybe 100lbs and she has beautiful legs and arms....she is just not skinny, she has definition. You can see her muscles. However, she has paid a trainer and is on this diet because she says she wants to lose fat. I dont see any fat on her!!! Her trainer put her on amino acids, flax seed oil, multi-vitamin, an extremely strict diet and some protein shakes. She has to work out every day and do 3 times a week of cardio... does this sound right? I am wondering since I am her height and 160lbs should I be taking amino acids, flax seed oil as well? What do Flax seed, amino acid do? Please Help.

First of all, 5'1 and 100 lbs is a GREAT weight.. does she happen to be in the 12-16 years old range? I wouldn't be surprised. Otherwise, I really don't know what those supplements do but I'm sure google would have the answer.

NO, my friend is 30 yrs old. Well, I just thought that someone here would be knowledgeable enough to answer my questions regarding what flax seed and amino acids do. If anyone else knows, please respond.

From what I understand Flax seed is a "healthy Oil". Because the body does need "fats". We just tend to eat the wrong fats, if you know what I mean. My husband also takes the flaxseed as he is on a altered version of the atkins diet. He has lost 85 lbs as of yesterday and the oil is supposed to help him with his restricted diet and helps the system clean itself also. From what I understand that is, I am no physician or anything.
hope that helps some

flax and amino acids are fine. In fact, flax is an excellent choice and she and all should be doing EFA's. The aminos are just supplement to increase the amino acid profile of her whole food, and will in no way hurt her. The protein shakes will also help, but need not go overboard. She should in no way cut out carbs. These are needed, especially health whole grains and fibrous ones. Fibrous veggies for instance are needed.

Thanks. I was just concerned since she is sooo small and her muscles are already visible. She claims that she is trying to get lean and lose fat. She is only eating oatmeal, chicken, fish, brocoli and brown rice and taking and several pills at meal times. I was just wondering what exaclty these pills do and wondering if I too needed them. I can not afford to go to a trainer or nutrionist which is why I am here. I tried just sticking to the same kinds of foods, but I have no energy when I eat them.

The pills are probably just multi vitamins, which can be picked up at Longs Or Ralphs or whatever sort of "general store" you have where you live. You might not be getting enough calories which is why you are low on energy.
