Hi all,
A busy mom of 2(ages 3 and 1)here. I can say after lurking around here for about 3 months most of my questions have been answered just by reading. Thanks for the great info.
A little back ground here: With my first baby(girl) I gained 50lbs(216lbs). It took me 18 months and I lost 70lbs, WooHoo!!!! The second baby I reached 216lbs again.
:(
This time around so far I have lost 40lbs at my sons first birthday. Last time I didn't check my BF% this time I am monitoring it and I have added weight training. Since Apr, I started the weight training have lost 22lbs and 7%BF. I use the Tanita BF scale. My goal is to use the principles I have learned here ie.. diet, cardio and weight training to see how far my body will go into the next 3 months.
Thank You for this informative website.

:) Melissa

Good job. It took me about 18 months to lose all my pregnancy weight as well. I didn't really start though until after about a year of her being born. Keep up the great work and welcome to FT.

Thanks all for the encouragement.

Lisa,
I see that you are a WM in Okinawa. I did a tour there from 93-94'. Does the rock still have the same ratio, 20 men to 1 female? I sure miss being with the Marines. Navy Dental Technician here.

Melissa, lose the Tanita scale...simple, plastic calipers can measure your bodyfat % more accurately.

Never did a tour in Okinawa when I was in the Corps back in the last '80s. Anyway, welcome to ft and let us know how we can help...

rpacheco,
What brand of calipers should I get? Money is not a problem.
I also use the Navy's standards for BF% as well. The measurements also showed a 7% loss. Short of spending a lot of money for a one time hydro weighing and an autopsy. :)
I would like to measure my progress and get the most accurate reading. The Tanita scale and tape measure keep me motivated. By the way what is wrong with the Tanita scale? Curious........

You can pick up calipers from www.netrition.com for about
15$ us. They are tanita calipers.

Other members have posted incorrect readings from Tanita scales. I don't think the scale can account for water retention.

Anyway, scale weight, calipers and your measurements should be more accurate. Hope this helps...

Melissa-- yes the ratio is about that still. I hate going to the club and everyone stares. I am In Camp Hansen, so I get a lot of the deployed Marines up here and the ratio is worse that 20-1, but I have been to Cuba and it was worse than this. I do like being a Marine so it is something that I have adapted to.

Nellie-- kids are great, I would like to have at least three more, but with the way things are nowadays, I think that I will only be able to afford two more-- but we'll see how much my husband makes when he's finished with college. Right now I am the only one working. I love kids but they do do a toll on your body.

Woah, three more! I think one would be enough for me, or maybe two so the first child won't be lonely, but that's it! =)

jnellie: alright smart-a$$. I guess it takes one to know one. :)
Fortunately or unfortunately more children are not in my future. Hubby is fixed. Plus we are dual military and I feel it is unfair to the children as far as quality time with each of them.
Children are wonderful. Their antics crack me up daily. As far as how many children to have 2 is enough for me.
Thanks for the info rpacheo and Cainsands.
Lisa; I was at Camp Foster. I ventured out to Camp Hansen a few times felt like I was in the boonies. How much longer do you have there?
Have a great day all!

:) Melissa

Hi all, Todd here from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. 25 and finally buckling down on a workout now that my career is going the way I like. Worked out randomly for a few weeks here and there in the past few years, but never stuck to a given schedule...Not to mention, I never really focused on any nutrition disciplines. Here to get thick and maybe compete someday if I'm not too old by the time I reach a good size. I like the gym, but just find it hard to keep the schedule, any pointers or psychosomatic suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Looking through some sites and pics definately keeps the focus though. Workout likes: Ab stuff, Chest, Legs, and Speed bag....definately speed bag! Not sure if its Stallone's fault or not...

Todd, welcome to our strange little community! I don't think you'll get too old to compete, one of our moderators is 40 and looks great, the longer you do it, the better you get at it and it'll show. About finding time - there have been many times when I've thought, oh, I don't have time for this, but just by taking a closer look at how you are spending your time will reveal that you really do have time to workout, regularly even! What do you do right after work? I used to come home and plop in front of the TV for a while, which is time that I could have spent at the gym, now I go directly from work to the gym because once you get home it's too tempting to just stay there and vege out. So, once again welcome to FT and many thanks for filling out your profile. =)
