I am a 5'8" 155lb 40yr old male. I usually go to the gym first thing in the morning and then run 3-5 miles at lunch time. After my run I eat lunch and feel fine, but after an hour or more I get really tired. It seems to help if I eat more but I'm not sure what types of food I should eat at this point. Is my body short on Carbs, Protien or both?

I think this is normal-you should feel pretty tired after a double work-out. You just need to take a nap after you eat lunch. (I wish) Try eating more at breakfast & less for lunch. Include a MR Bar at 10am & 2pm I know a big lunch makes me very sleepy.

I used to be sleepy, until I lowered the lunch carbs.Think it has to do with our body digesting the stuff.

Carivan's on the right track. What exactly do you eat for lunch? If you're eating high or mid glycemic carbs, they're probably spiking your blood sugar levels and then causing the insulin release to overcompensate, thus putting your blood sugar too low. That's one possibility. The other is that you're not properly replenshing yourself after the workout, thus leaving your blood sugar low as it was after the workout. Make sure you're eating enough and fit some low GI carbs in with some protein.

Thanks mack, that's excactly what I was thinking.
First thing, do you eat something straight after your morning work out (and what? -you need it for recovery!) and secondly what do you eat for lunch?
