can I do more than is suggested in the 12 week ab workout, like say train then rest only one day for quicker results

More work will not bring results. Abs are made in the kitchen.

If thats your first time through the 12 week ab program then it should be fine. If your pretty good with crunches and so on then the first few weeks should be a breeze but just stick with the recommended days/sets/reps and it will get a little bit tougher towards the end. Also if you want to see the abs you develop then what bb1fit said is right on.. but then again when isn't bb1fit right on any subject here =)

Brace yourselves for what you are about to hear. There is no best exercise for getting the coveted “six pack”! Good, visible abs are a result of having low levels of body fat. You can do all the crunches and leg raises you want but if you have layers of fat covering your abs no one will see them, not even you.
