It depends on many factors. How much exercise do you do daily ( weight training/ cardio), is it part of your job? How Much do you weigh? How much LBM do you have? There are many things that vary the answer. I will give you a site that should help you out some. It can be used for bulking or cutting.
Good Luck

You sound like you may be an ectomorph. if so you need a healthier diet than most. The reason for this is that Ectomorphs find it harder to gain muscle mass so high protein and good carbs (slow or lo GI) and keep your airobic activety to a minimum. forget the BMI counters just eat as much of this stuff as you can and get some good fats in there as well but don't use the fat for your callories and don't think this is a free pass to eat crap (clean = lean) Ectomorphs typically have less overall muscle mass than most to begin with so high protein and complex carbs are a must during the day but you should take some fast carbs post workout with your protien to help shuttle the amino acids to your muscles. There will be times when you will have to force your self to eat but you should try to get in around 6 to 8 moderate meals a day.

So basically my calorie intakes are much higher than other peoples are... yeah I've been getting a lot of protein but I mean I wouldnt go as far to say I don't have any lean body mass, I've had some shoulders and bicep muscles that are fairly large for my size and the rest of my body isn't all that bad either, not all fat I can tell, but I am by no means an average metabolism....

Quoting from Zenkei18:

And I would say I have noticed my bicep has gotten larger since I began working out, but it doesn't make sense that my muscles are growing but I am losing weight...
