I have a hard time gettin my excersise's done prior to 9pm. My question is if im getting such a late workout, what do you recommend as far as post workout meals? I am trying to loss fat and build lean muscle mass. The second question to this is if im only doing cardio that evening do I still need to have a post workout meal? If im burning 200+ calories while doing cardio it does not make much sense to me by adding back that calories in the form of proteins and or some carbs?

Yes, you need a post workout meal, especially so with doing cardio. the "sense" part is you need to change your view on how you look at things. It is not that you are adding calories back in, it is the beginning of getting out of a catabolic state. A hard training session will put you catabolic, add in cardio and it exasperates things, and then no food and you are burning up the very thing that burns fat, your muscle. So, your fat to muscle ration will become even worse, and your metabolism will slow in response, and your body will "learn" to store fat in anticipation of starvation. Hope that makes sense.

yes so it's vital to get a shake or meak with 30-40g of protein and 60-80g of fast digesting carbs...
then right before you go to sleep eat 1/2 to full cup of cottage cheese along with maybe a yam...if you need to top cottage cheese with a little bit of jam or berries to make it go down easier(if u have a prob with its taste)....cottage cheese is an amazing bodybuilding food....
also what time do you go to slp? give yourself 2-3 hours after end of workout and bedtime...

natsone- I don't know how you are doing your diet, but for me I divide my total calories by numbers of meals and snacks which includes pre and post work out food, and then it doesn't matter if you burned off 200 and put 200 on...at least I don't think it does in the grand scheme of things. I just space my meals differently on days I only do cardio since I see no reason in eating late (I am a PM gym person too). Generally, I eat my bigger meals earlier in the day too. So for a 2000 cal diet I might eat 5 meals at 400 cals or I might do the first three meals at 500 cals and the last two meals at 250 cals. It makes me feel good to eat this way so that is why I do it. It took me a while to figure out what was best for me though.

I try to have 5-6 small meals a day with the bulk of my carbs in the daytime. I will have my last meal (dinner) 1 hour prior to workout and then my post workout meal puts me over the top on calories, carbs, etc...I do not think I will be able to function without all the meals im having during the day as it is. It worked out for me the last year and 1/2 but it seems that i've hit a plateau and im not shedding much pounds anymore. My muscles continue to rip and tone, however my abs. are not.

I like to relax for an hour or 2 before I make it to bed. I have started to stomach cottage cheese over the last few months because of all the nutrition its has, never really considered it a post workout meal, hmmmm. By the way what type of carbs would you suggest that late in the evening? Fruits?

Thanks for the info, I new there was a valid reason just could not explain it to the wife. It was getting to the point that she did not want to have the extra calories etc... this should help clear things up for her and me.
