elliptical or tredmill?

I am going to purchase either an elliptical or a tredmill but am not sure which one to get? I want to be able to gte in a good cardio workout on those yucky rainy days. Is one better than the other. What do you guys prefer?? TIA

I prefer the elliptical since there is virtually no impact on my joints. Both are great machines it just kind of depends on what you yourself prefer, and I know alot of people who don't like the feel of the "eliptical movement" they say it feels strange. I dunno :)

Which to you go on at the gym?

Buy the one you're most likely to use.

Is your main form of cardio walking? i would say buy a stationary bike, either recumbent or upright so you can get some cross training in on those rainy days.

I dont go to a gym, that why I am purchasing this piece of equipment. I just dont know which one is better.

Although not as efficient as either of the ones you mentioned, a bike takes up less room, you just have to do it a little longer, also no impact on the joints. I'll have to go with a simmer on this one.

I have a bike and an elliptical and I use the elliptical much more, it burns more calories than a bike (if you get one with arm action as well)
Also you can run outside to vary your routine but you couldn't go for a quick elliptical round the park.

just a thought, but insted of getting a bike, tredmill or an Eliptical, what about a training video? like Tae-Bo? Power Yoga? just a thought beeing cheep :)

The elipticle will definately burn more calories, and also get the HR up faster.

what about blisters on the treadmill. i think i have narrow ankle syndrome although i have wide feet. i have new balance shoes and still i get blisters on the back of the heels. can anything be done about this?

put some moleskin or thick band aids in your shoes or on your heels, rub stick deodorant on your heels where they tend to blister - it will reduce friction.
Or you could try breaking down the back of your shoe, we used to do it to our boots, wrap the back in a bandanna or washcloth and hit it with a hammer. Repeat until it is more comfortable when you wear it....:)

I wear 2 pairs of socks when nessesary to either brake in shoes, or when running in boots, the two pairs of socks will rub, and keep the friction off your feet. Just remeber to make sure that your shoes are "snug" not cut-off-your-circulation tight, and not loose enough to let your foot move around in your shoe
