Ok, so basically i enjoy the weekend, drinking usually figures into it in a big way but im afraid this will completely be undoing all my exercise and healthy eating during the week.

What are my options?
I know light beer, but it doesnt seem to be much better than regular to my eyes.
Vodka & water mixes etc???

I too struggle with this. Unfortunatly drinking on the weekend is embedded in my weekend relaxing and has been for years. However, I have learned how to moderate my drinking and rarely have more than a couple of pints during a weekend "night out"-believe me, it used to be many more. And I do not drink at all during the week. I do occationally still "binge" the occational day -loafing around my pool always loors me in. But, I have cut back dramatically. Switching to vodka and soda isn't a bad stagedy as well (I ask for a large pint glass with one shot of Vodka and a glass full of soda- a splash of cranberry is nice as well) I've found the best thing to do is to set a limit and do not exceed it! I just drink a lot slower (I just wish my beer would stay cold!)

I realize that no alcohol is the best choice, but it's a tough one when it's so ingrained into your socializing...sad but true!

When I do drink, rather than beer I drink old fashioned gin martini's with an olive or two. That way, at most I have two (okay, once in a while I'll have four) and it is pretty much pure alcohol, so not as bad as beer (although I do love beer). I guess that would be similar to fly's vodka and soda. Michelob Ultra if you can just have one or two. I don't drink every weekened but there are certain times of the year when opportunities come up back to back.

I have the same struggle with beer. I have made SO much progress in a relatively short time, so I had to make the decision to stop totally!!!
There is no middle ground with me. No different than exercising. I'm either all out with it or none at all. Same with beer unfortunately!!

Hmmmm.....moving forward or stepping back....moving forward or stepping back.

Look at it this way, what is your body worth to you? Answer that question and then ask if you really need the beer. :)

It's possible to stay lean and drink. The key is of course moderation. If you are going to drink beer drink Beck Light, it has only 64 calories each bottle and like 4 grams of carbs and tastes pretty good. 3 or 4 of these on a weekend night should not effect your training. If you are going to drink liquor, keep it straight up. No soda unless it is diet soda. The soda will add a lot of sugar and more calories. Not a good idea. I drink on the weekends too but I try to keep it very moderate. It can be hard sometimes but if you can remember what the next day will feel like after a binge, it will keep you focused on moderation. Binge drinking can do horrible things to your body so pay close attention to how many you are having. Remember binge drinking is usually defined as 5 or more drinks. So it's easy to get carried away.

Hmm...club soda is just naturally no-cal carbonated water (I'm assuming with the vodka and soda), so better than diet soda.

fouts, the downfall with beer isn't the calories. When you ingest alcohol, your body sees it as a toxin and tries to get rid of it fast. So when you might normally be burning fat, your body is using the alcohol instead.

Techinically it is the effect alcohol has on protein synthesis that wreaks the most havoc on your muscle gains. Beer is essentially "empty" calories and pretty much just turns to fat. Drinking a couple of beers actually has health benefits though. Like I said moderation is the key. As far as the liquor goes next time you might want to specify club soda, soda to me means coke, pepsi, etc.

Liquor it is then....
Drinking is ingrained in my friends and i in a big way (we're Irish) so not drinking just wouldnt sit right with me although i understand comepletely that some people prefer to give it up altogether.

An experiment that worked well for me was Vodka dn of all thigns water. Get a shot of vodka, tall glass, some ice and fill her up with water it actually tastes OK!

Juice adds sugar and calories. I probably wouldn't like vodka and water but if you like it then by all means drink it. Just remember to keep it under control. Too much and it will affect your progress.

Beer Contains Female Hormones!

This is serious stuff...

Scientists at National University of Lesotho released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer. Men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption. The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women.

To test the theory, 100 men drank 8 pints of beer each within a 1 hour period. It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects:

1) Argued over nothing.
2) Refused to apologize when obviously wrong.
3) Gained weight.
4) Talked excessively without making sense.
5) Became overly emotional.
6) Couldn't drive.
7) Failed to think rationally
8) Had to sit down while urinating.

No further testing was considered necessary.

Rye/whiskey and water. or Vodka and water. Maybe it's an acquired taste but I don't mind drinking it.
