Over the past couple of years I have lost a considerable amount of weight. I went from 190 lbs size 16 to 130 lbs size 8. I did this at college with access to a free, well-equipped gym and classes. My lifestyle was more structured and I found time to fit exercise in. Now that I am out of college and moved to a small town, I don't have the same resources as I used to. I do ,however, have access to a walking track at a local school. I have gained about 20 lbs and I am starting to feel desparate. I don't want to go back to the same size I was. I loved feeling energetic and exercising.

My question is will a walking program help me lose the weight? How do I begin again?

Sure walking will help. If you go to www.runnersworld.com, on the left there should be a link to articles and programs for walkers. Also, even though you don't have access to the same type of equipment, you still can control your diet. Good luck to you and welcome to FT!

Agreed, Runnersworld is a good source for articles, I have a subscription. Your best bet Jen is to run if you can. Walking is good for you and will burn calories. However, running (not slow jogging) will burn them even quicker and improve your cardiovascular system immensely. Watch your diet too, no amount of walking, running, etc., will help you lose weight if you're caloric intake exceeds your expenditure rate.
Good luck

Walking (or slow run) is also great for your mind...... If you feel a little sad or frustrated one day then just go for a long walk.
Now for fat loss you need to walk fast (power walk) or even run for a little in between (interval training).

To help the digestion you can also go for a little walk after having eated.

Don't worry Jen, we all have ups and downs, and you can do it!
