Well, technically, if you are working out, it's not a rest day :). You could call it an off-day, where maybe you do weights 3x a week and cardio two times, then rest for two days. Also, depending on whether you sit on the machine between sets (ooh! a big pet peeve of mine!) or if you get up and circuit train, you may already be getting a cardio workout. Another suggestion a personal trainer gave my husband for getting cardio in was, during your rest between sets, run/jog for 1 minute, then do the next set, then run/jog for 1 minute, etc. This is easier if you have a track at your gym, but treadmill or bikes are easy too. When you get done with your weights then, your cardio is done as well.
