well as the title says

my gym doesnt have a barbell at all and doing DLs with DB, well can't do them properly

also the S' Machine doesnt allow the BB to go all the way down, it stays off the floor about 8-10 inches
is that acceptable as a DL or do you guys have any other suggestions.

( I did them for the first time and was doing reps with around 250-300 :big_smile: )

Number one the smith machine is not a good way to do Dl with since it locks you into one plane of motion. 2 I find it hard to believe that for your first time doing them you hit 250-300 for reps. Do not forget that the smith machine is not going to weigh the sames as a barbell. I would try to get a barbell to use.

also by doing this, your only doing partal range, the lift off the floor is the hardest part. Like mutt said, it locks you in a plan of motion, so you can lean back to "lockout"..........even if i had to buy one myself, i'd buy one.

its more targeted towards the fitness ppl it does have some weights but no BB
upside loads of gorgeous woman
downside no BB

will ask them and see if we can get one
I think it could be funny taking your own BB to the gym

I know of same type of gym....worst one in san fran...fitness usa 2000.....no barbells , dbs to 75.....got a smith machine a couple years ago only..

to fix the 8-10 inches....stand on a bench......or a block....and adjust your body to compensate for the fixed range of motion....

suspended cables on smith machine range from 15 to 35 lb....not 45 like a regular one...

thats good advice but not sure what you mean by adjusting my body to compensate.

stand closer to the bar...maybe tilt your body slightly different....ie to adapt to the fixed range of motion ...when you do deadlifts the bar moves in an arc of sort...don't know how to really fix that problem....deadlifts are very hard to do on smith machine....

I have a tendency to push backwards when fighting for reps.......I can't imagine how I would do that on smith machine with its fixed up and down pattern...do yourself a favor and find another gym....even if it's really close....doesn't sound like much of a gym...I have been in over 10 gyms around san francisco....a few of them I hated either because of lack of equipment, clientelle, location, pricing, etc....you have to find a gym that works for you...barbell is a basic equipment that any gym should have...enough said...

no prob.....overcrowding is only during peak hours for most gyms...so go either in the morning or late in the evening....avoid 4-7pm that's when it's most busy for majority of gyms....
