So there you are at work eating lunch or as I like to call it meal #3. It never fails that some one asks "are you on a diet?" or "how is the diet going?". First let me state that I DO NOT FLIPPIN DIET!!!!!! I eat right! By most definitons dieting means eating less cals to loose weight. In my opinion it means "ya take off a few, add a few more". Do we diet? That is the question. I do not think that according to the "normal" people that what we do is dieting. The main reason for posting this is that in a lot of posts people talke about not following thier diet falling off the wagon in terms of diet. But what are they really talking about? Cheating on you nutritional plan is ok as long as it does not become a habit. The fact that we limit the types of foods and for some the overall calories we take in, does not by itself make us dieters. I see the dieters at work. Yeah a few are thinner than I am, some may even be cut. But I bet if you take a lipid test, I will come out the best. Case in point: There is a guy here who is 6 foot 1 inch(my height) weighs 304(again what i do). But if you look at us I look at least 40lbs lighter. And he is always on a new diet cause that is what he believes will help him out. I know that the way I eat and what I put in my body is a food lifestyle not a diet, what about you?-------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!! |

Using the word diet to mean well" in my diet I eat this...etc" is not wrong, but i hate it when people assume that since I eat cleaner than they I must be on a diet there is a difference!!!-------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!! |

So true mutt, there is a HUGE difference. DIET is the four letter word of death for most people out there, lol.

How are these: meal plan, nutrition program? I've been answering the 'diet question' with: 'No, I have a new way of eating'. I'm actually eating more than I used to so it is hard to call it a diet anyway.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Some things have to be believed to be seen! |

If people ask me if I'm dieting, I just belt 'em or kick them in the gut. Bastards! But I'm not bitter...LOL
Seriously, call it what you want. Diet, nutrition plan, eating habit, whatever. People who "know" will respect your motives and not question them. People who don't know will form their own opinions which you probably won't be able to change anyway. I smile and walk away from people like that. I need that energy for my workouts! TSMD |

My coworkers tease me all the time. They see me drinking my shakes at work and say "Still trying to lose weight?" I reply "no... trying to gain it actually!" Gulp gulp gulp... -------------- Dont wait! Procrastinate NOW! =) |

Exactly....my coworkers can't believe that someone would actually be trying to GAIN weight. I've tried calling my eating habits a nutritional program etc., but then the question always comes, "Oh...so you're on a diet?" You can explain for days that it's not really a "diet," but some people will never understand. Oh well.-------------- OSU Law Rugby....specializing in personal injury and pain & suffering. | |

Oh, this aggravates me to no end; you wouldn't believe how catty women can be w/ the eye rolls, etc when time comes to have dessert and you have a piece of fruit or whatever. Seems like when you're already thin/in good condition everyone has a comment. Don't tell me *you're* on a diet, etc, etc, etc. Or, comeon, have some cookies, how come you're worried about it, as much as you exercise they'll just turn into muscle! (My mom actually said this to me the other day LOL)
I manage my diet because I don't *want* to diet, don't want to get caught on that yo yo like my mom and countless other people I know of dieting and then not restricting my diet at all and gaining, then dieting, etc etc. I'm happy w/ my choices and sometimes wish everyone else would leave me the hell alone! *whew* Mutt is exactly right, this is a lifestyle, not a "diet" - a diet implies on or off, this is a way to live healthy which is something I prefer to do full time! |

JessicaR I can relate so much to your post. I'm not fat or anything, but of course I have been living this healthy lifestyle for a few months now. Some of my friends say it's disgusting that I'm on a diet trying to lose more weight and that I'm going to waste away if I keep working out. I try to explain to them that I simply want to be healthy and even gain a few pounds...exchange some fat for muscle. And yep...eye rolls, or sarcastic "ookaaay's". It is almost uncomfortable eating with some of them nowadays--I know what you mean about passing up desserts and getting "the look"
how annoying, oh well |

I decided last night to just forget them and funnel the negativity into cardio......I will not let them derail my plan or goals anylonger!.....hee heee-------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!! |

Good post again Mutt. After three years of maintaining my weight and eating habits I would definitely call my diet a lifestyle. Of course my weight is down. I eat small portions of good food cooked in interesting ways. I choose to limit junk but I do occasionally indulge but my overall diet is good and healthy I think. I am always reading mags and sites about the science of diet to keep up on what is healthy. I am always evolving. I have a lifestyle to support my weight. I am active, eat well, choose good foods, and watch eating habits such as when I am bored. I used to be a boredom eater. Now I track my habits and hunger and check if there is a correlation between my hunger and boredom. If I ate less than two hours ago, I go find something to do. At first I am checking myself and then it becomes habit. It still makes me laugh when people ask are you still on that diet. I did Weight Watchers which pushes healthy lifestyle as opposed to diet. Like I said before, after three years I think I can safely say I changed my lifestyle, therefore I changed my life.
