My recent program has Decline Bench Press and my bench only does incline. I know it's a low cost bench but hey it has worked for me so far. I trust that F.T. would not put that in my routine for no reason so I would like to somehow get them in. I train in my garage and currently do not have a gym membership. Is there a way to safely do these on a regular incline bench or do I need to purchase a new bench, membership at Gym, build something, or what? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you can alter push ups by putting your feet above your shoulders so that your arms get the same motion as involved in the declined press. you can experiment with ways to add resistance after that if you need it.

Also keep your eye open at used gym equipment stores and sales. they are not too expensive new but I got mine on sale and it switches from incline to flat to decline.

if could do dips, that`s a alternative

that`s why when I was looking for a bench I wanted to be fully adjustable...they cost a bit more then the regular ones but it saves you money in the long run...

Cut some 2x6's and block up your bench for declines.

Dips. Decline isn't that important. In fact, I would recommend dips OVER decline bench.

Wow, thanks for the input. I do have a couple of short padded handles that protrude away from my bench on the bar uprights that look like they could be for dips. I actually have never done dips so I did not think of them but I will give it a shot. And I will keep my eyes open for a better bench as I am not happy with my current one. It is cheap and light weight. A name brand but none the less its too narrow for my likeing on the bar supports and requires clip overs to keep the bar from falling when changing plates. I would not feel safe jacking it up unless I could somehow anchor it to the floor for fear of tipping easily when I am not sitting on it. Great Input. Thats what I love about this site. You folks are great and probably do not get the thanks you all deserve. By the way I am not opposed to buying a new bench if anyone wishes to suggest a good one.

Gidde-up on the dips if you gotta place to do them, otherwise I gotta go with Charlies idea.

Wrestler, as bad as I hate to admit to it I am still pretty heavy. Though I have lost over 50 lbs I am currently @ 245 and still working towards my ideal weight. However, dips are next to impossible for me to do with full body weitht as I am not strong enough yet. Is there a way to work up to that? Can I cheat somehow and still gain enough benifit to gain the strength to work dips into my routine? If so, How. I appreciate your input. Thanks

u can do negatives until u r strong enough to do real ones....eventually you will b able to do them......its the same way with any "body weight" exercise for example pull ups and push ups. the more u do the motion the stronger you'll get and the more reps you'll b able to do.

2much had a good suggestion. Try reading my thread on "Other Chin-Up progressions" and see how you can apply them to dips. It is better to go through progressions than it is to get on one of those "assistance" machines. Also, try doing partial reps, and increasing your depth as you get stronger.

Is there an easy way to find that thread "Other Chin-Up progressions"?
