I started my crosstrainer program yesterday.  20 minutes, then 25 minutes today, both on level 4-5.
It's hard to keep my heart rate from going too high during exercise, so I need to take it easy at first.  Slowly I hope to get up to 45 minutes, 5 times per week.

Soooooo, nobody's checking in yet :-) No problem, I will keep doing it myself otherwise I'm sure I won't keep up my training plan!

Today I woke up early and did a few basic exercises on my sling trainer, some push-ups, some squats, and some wide-grip chin-ups.  I will try to do resistance training monday, wednesday, friday, and cross-trainer every other day.

--Walking is something I've been missing as I tend to be a homebody. So,I am challenging myself to go for a 20 minute walk at least 5 days a week from monday to friday.Keep it up Novatian and I will do the same !-

hi Victor, I am both :-) I'm one of the original founders of the site, from back in 2000, and now I'm using it to try and motivate myself (and others) to get back into shape.  I think many of our original members have let their fitness level slip in the past 10-15 years, so I'm hoping this group will help everyone get back on track.

Daily check-in:
30 minutes on the crosstrainer, level 6.  It seemed that my heart rate was a bit lower if I set the crosstrainer on the same level as I did on Saturday.

I started logging my heart rate with a polar H7 sender and a great Android app that I found, Pulsometer RR.

I only managed to do some very basic things this morning.  Stretches, squats, 2 sets of 5 chin-ups, tried a couple of plank exercises and did some abs exercises using the suspension trainer.

I also measured around my waist, at the largest point, to get an idea of the severity of the problem that I am facing :-)  95cm, or 37.5 inches, so for me, it is quite severe...

Last time I lost weight, I went from 100cm down to around 90, so I think I can do it again, only this time I will aim for >85.

First day, got through all my workouts, have been sick with flu. Feeling much better, but had to cut cardio in half because maybe not as better as should be.

I never checked in yesterday -- didn't get to walk more than 20 minutes, but managed to cut back on portions. Weighed in at 395.3 today -- I know, daily weight fluctuates, but I feel like I'm less bloated and inflammation in joints is reduced somewhat.

One of the things that sparked me to action was coming up on my birthday in a couple weeks. In 1998, I did the Body for Life Challenge. I never made beyond 30 days because I got sick, but did manage to drop 14lbs in the process. What struck me was the guy who had turned 40. Had 3 boys. Said he was in the best shape of his life. I was 20 years old at the time... but now I turn 39 in 3 weeks. I want to be that guy. I want my best body. Maybe it's too much to reach for and I should compartmentalize and breakdown my goals -- but that would be my ultimate goal. Could I ever be better than my 22 year old body? Maybe I don't have to push 135lb dumbells for 12 reps. But healthy? Physically fit? Under 300lbs?

I plan to spend 30 minutes actively doing chores around the house during lunch today. Dishes and laundry. Too cold outside!

Daily Check-In: So, I usually walk a minimum of two miles a day since I walk my dog. Today, I added in a  20 minute session of Pliates, which I am going to start implementing two or three times a week.  Let me tell you, it kicked my butt!!  But felt so good!!

How did everyone else do today?

Today's check-in: 35 minutes on the crosstrainer, followed by a 30 minute walk.  I think the crosstrainer was a bit too hard for me, I tried to keep it all at level 6 but my heart rate was too high.  I will switch my training to a target heart-rate rather than level.

Welcome everyone that's joined so far, it's great to see so many people trying to stick to this!

This is my long work week so hoping to add st and swim next week to my routine , I will check in later today when I have my steps done.

Thank you Adrian just knowing that there is someone there giving us a little push to check in is great ! Thanks.

Check-in: I was lazy today and woke up a bit late.  I was contemplating a rest day anyway.  But then.......... I decided to walk to work :-) Put on my heart rate monitor and walked to work fast enough to get my heart rate pretty high.  50-minute walk time - not bad!

I will reiterate what Ravenbeauty said - it's great to see that people are keeping this up!  In 2 days we will have reached one week since the challenge started.  I wonder how many people will give a status update after week 1.

A delayed check-in for me, because I had a busy weekend.

Saturday: 0 workout :-(  shoveled a lot of snow, got a good workout from that
Sunday: 0 workout :-( shoveled more snow, went for a walk
Today: 30 minutes on the crosstrainer

Weight: unchanged.  This week I will also start to eat less in order to start bringing down the weight.

Angelsnow: that's some serious progress you're making there! keep it up!

Today I swam for 30 mins, first time in the pool since Christmas . I also got 15,000 plus steps. I think I will add the strength in next week , I work shift work so trying to settle into doable times for exercise so I can maintain this . My regular weigh in day is Wednesday so I will report that each week .

Thanks for the encouragement Adrian .

How is everyone else doing .?

Daily check-in: 45 minutes on the crosstrainer.  Level 6, then down to 4.  Now my goal is to maintain the 45min but slowly increase the level without my heart rate going too high.  I guess that's the part that will take some time.

I did a shortened version of strength training .Being tired I was tempted to skip my workout but glad I did my shortened workout anyway.
I read a quote the other day that comes to mind and it may be useful to others and that is...."When you improve a little each day, eventually big things occur"

Hi all!  Late check in for me,  here's last weeks recap:

Friday. 6.35mile hike (hilly)
Saturday rest day
Sunday 30 min Pilates,  2.5 mile walk
Monday rest day
Tuesday Pilates,  upper body workout and 20 min HIIT on treadmill

Today is rest day as I traveled to Cali to be with my granddaughter until Monday. I'm not sure how much working out I'm going to get,  but I'll try.

Down to 169 (4 lbs since last week)

I see some of you doing great and actually advancing.  Remember your body has good muscle memory so you have to change up your workout routines every 4 to 6 weeks to continue to see improvement.  Keep up the good work!

Quick update, 50min on the crosstrainer today, only a quick workout yesterday. Seems that things are getting better, I'm  feeling more fit, less tired going up stairs and walking. Slowly but surely I will get back on track :-)

My daily check-in:

Friday - nothing
Saturday - nothing
Sunday - 1 hour on the crosstrainer

Not perfect, but also not bad.  Much better than the max 20min I could do 2 weeks ago.  I feel that I am starting to fall into a routine and that I will hopefully be able to keep it up!

Friday I took as a rest day as it was impossible to do anything.
Saturday visited my daughters and got my steps in walking with one of them around the arena while my hubby and other daughter watched a movie. It was a win win quality time with my daughters and still got my exercise in. Though being on the road my eating slacked off so need to get that in check asap.
Tomorrow night after work I will go straight to the gym start st and some cardio , got to comit to it here if not after a 12 hr shift I will waffle lol

I just started a new job so I have new availability and hours. So I'm trying to get back into a routine. I took a walk for 30 minutes today. That's at least a good start. I need to work on picking out healthier snacks instead of processed sugar. Thanks for allowing me into the group.

45min on the crosstrainer today.  Nothing yesterday, not good!

Too bad nobody is posting in the 2-week update discussion, it would be interesting to see how everyone is doing in the longer-term.  I fear the worst, that many people have given up, and I don't know what we can do to get them back on track!
