Okay yet again my head is going to explode. I was reading about a few different supplements and noticed that the univeral site mentioned cycling whey protein. I have heard of cycling creatine, but is the cycle pretty much the same for protein? 5 weeks on then 1 off? And should I change brands after going through 1 of the big tubs? It's going to take forever for me to go through that much so should I just have two kinds on hand and rotate?

without seeing the article, i dont think that they meant to cycle the protein like other suplements, as in 5 weeks on, 1 off. i believe they meant to cycle it throughout the day: whey is best taken after a workout, for example, while a slower acting protein, such as milk and/or egg, is better for the rest of the day.

Cain, I usually don't cycle protein powders...although I guess you could. The only problem is that I usually cannot hit my daily recommended protein intake without it.

Not really sure why Universal would mention cycling it, but maybe Michael can shed more light on this? He's our Universal products expert...

I may have read it wrong then. I know it said that alot of athletes switch protein products because your body gets used to the makeup of each one, so you hit a plateau with it. Thanks for the feedback.

There is a similar article written by Charles Polquin in Beverly BodyMuscle vol 2. (it took a few min to find it !)
He states that most bodybuilders know 4 solid proteins, beef, eggs, chicken and tuna and if you consume the same proteins over and over you become allergic to them. He expands on this...but in the end recommends you rotate supplemental proteins over three day cycle. Example Day 1 Liver Protein Day 2 Whey and casein proteins and on Day 3 Egg Protein.

That sounds like a good idea, if only for variety's sake.

Whoa. I don't eat liver, or red meat so I'll have to find other sources of protein.
