On both non and workout days - take glutamine in the morning and post workout, creatine post workout, or morning and post if you are in a loading phase. Whey protein is beneficial post-workout.
using whey protein as a supplement on off days is okay, too, but if you have time to prepare meals, they are more beneficial to your goals and probably more cost effective.
