Hi! So I finished my first work out today and I was surprised that it was my arms that were sore after. I realize that my upper body is likely weaker than my lower body, (I'm currently taking riding lessons once or twice a week (although most women have weaker upper bodies I think:) ) So here's my question, if I feel my arms/shoulders sore, will that still help me lose my excess around my middle? I don't have a whole lot (I'm 5'7 and 140 lbs) but I would like to tone my tummy back up. I'm also doing the ab program but it starts out as only 2ce a week, will it hurt if I do it more often or should I just wait and take it slow? Thanks!

Keep browsing the thumb tack posts and you'll quickly find why most people fail. Whatever kind of shape you're in now didn't happen over night and the reverse also applies. Your whole body will respond from the individual work outs but it's going to take time. I assume (your profile doesn't say) that based on your questions, you are female. Not that it makes much difference but what causes a lot of women to fail is that the goal isn't reached quickly enough, then they over reduce calories and switch over to mass amounts of cardio and ab work.

I will tell you that I have lost 22lbs over the course of 8 months but its the inches Ive lost that are noticeable. My jeans have also noticed:big_smile:But i still have a pouch on my stomach though it has slowly shrunken. Give it time you will notice the loss. I have not been totally consistent in my 8 months but im still at it. My problem is my diet that is key to weight loss.

Themis, any exercise that burns fat will do you good, but your body will decide what fat to use and not you!!

The substrate that is used and where it comes from is basically your bodies choice. You have no or very little control over this aspect. Where your gains/losses come from is what you do in between these workouts.

bb1, I suspected as much. By in between workouts I'm assuming you mean drinking lots of water, not eating too much junk and eating a good diet. That's what i've been trying to do anyway. Oh and conan, it's called sarcasm^^ ;) We don't all say eh here believe it or not!

You got it. Just as one does not gain muscle during a workout, so to does the fat burn go. Both are attained from how you conduct yourself post training.
