Ok I admit, I have been lax on my diet and workout. I am not working right now, so I should have time on my hands to Lift and at the very least eat right. Fact is with my son, and my wife and new born baby(the last few weeks have been hard!), in the house it is all I can do to eat at all. That is the main problem. I am taking medication for depression and that is a big help, but a side effect(good one I think) is that it curbs my hunger so I am not into eating but a small meal here or there, Most often I just eat what is easy to get (chips, doughnuts etc). The nice thing about my wife having our second son is that she realizes that at our current weights and cardio fitness levels we are in danger of not being able to play with the boys. I am in much better shape than her but then again I did not just have a 10lb baby!. So she is very commited to getting into shape. But I still need help with my time management....SO anybody that can help with that is more than welcome to let me know some ideas..I have a gym in my basement so going to a gym is not needed....thanks!

Well, since your wife recently gave birth and realizes that she needs to change her eating and exercise habits to enjoy being a part of your childrens' lives (an active part), I think it'd be a GREAT idea not to buy the chips and doughnuts anymore. This should be so much easier to do since the two of you want to change your eating. In my house when those types of foods are around, it's almost beyond impossible for me to stay out of them. I crave junk food like that, but I don't have the metabolism that my 6'2" husband has or my 4 year old son has and I GAIN weight so easily if I try to keep eating that type of foods.

You are definitely still under a lot of stress because of the job situation and now the birth or your newest son, but it's not impossible to make things work. Begin by taking a walk with your family. Remove some of those tempting foods from your house and they won't be a threat. Strive to make it one week with good eating and daily exercise. Work back into your weight training.

((((())))) Best of luck!!

I want to be helpful Mutt, and I think you know that about me. However, it's 8:30am and I'm sitting here staring at a Big Grab of Chili Cheese Fritos and can't think of a single reason not to start shoving them into my head. AND I think my tan is fading. Tough morning...

OK, its my turn, I have been traveling for the past 2 weeks and eating everything I shouldn't. My workouts have been non-existant since most hotels have limited fitness rooms plus I have just been too tired. I know my tummy is slowly getting bigger and my energy level is down. I feel like I'm losing everything that I have worked so hard to gain.

my cardio has become non-existent, my girlfriend has become non-existant, and my abs are slowly becoming non-existant.

Oh my goodness people...seasonal affective disorder anyone? (just kidding)

ok, let me see if I can add a few words of wisdom:

1. Mutt....even though you are not working and things are topsy turvy with a new baby in the house...get yourself on a routine. Plan your day and your meals on paper if you have to and you can get your wife in on it too. If you are anything like the general population, there are many things about the house to attack that have gone undone when you were working...schedule a few walks with the babies before it gets too cold outside...you know, try to stay busy and put a workout on your list. For me, getting started is the hardest part, but, once I do...it gets easier. I hope it will be the same for you.

2. Anni, STEP AWAY FROM THE FRITOS.

3. Pritchard, I dare you to restart you cardio today, get a new girlfriend tomorrow and post a picture of your returning abs in a few weeks.

oops....

4. FDSK, staying true to your cause while traveling is the most difficult thing to do in the world. You can eat healthy, but you have to go out of your way to do it. Just stay on target as much as possible and be sure to get right back to routine as soon as you are home and have the resources.

It is indeed difficult when you travel. I always make a habit of looking on the internet before I leave for gyms in the area, and make a plan to go to one of them, and find time no matter what. Most out of town gyms if you are not affiliated like through a chain for instance 24 hr. fitness will charge $10 to work out. Nutrition on the other hand gets tough. I try to find stores in the area, and go there and get things I can eat like tuna, salads, canned chicken, etc. Eating in restaraunts is always a gamble. Try to plan your trip as best you can, these are some suggestions that may help, they work for me. Good luck to you.
