There has been a lot of people, as there is each year around this time, asking how to stay committed to working out. I know for me there is a very strong desire to get freaky strong, and big. I want people to stare at me for the sheer size of my muscles. I want to be the one that can lift the couch by myself. That alone is what gets me up at 5am and to the gym to lift and do the cardio. That is what makes me eat the way I do to forgo the cookies at work or turn down that trip to Bk. That is why I drink a gallon+ of water while others drink cokes. But there are other more important reasons. One is health. Plain and simple if you eat, train right you not only live longer but better. I have a family to care for, which is why for the first time if 5 years or longer I have made a point to hit the treadmill4 days a week. I want to be there for their children, and to be a bother to them as I get older LOL. But what is it that causes me to stay the course? Not only all the above, but the fact that I know it is needed. I need to be there. I love to lift and all that entails. I will go out of my way to find a way to lift. This winter I have had been out of the gym for about 2 months. I went out every night and shovled thanks to mother nature. I lifted the weights in my basement as well. So if you find yourself lagging and it is hard to get there, you have to ask yourself.....Do I have what it takes to get to my goal? I think if you are really dedicated to reahing your goal you will find a way to get committed to it all!

-------------- I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it is gone past me I will turn to see fear's path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain

Wow you are so right, and there is some great inspiration here. I struggle once and awhile, mostly for time issues, but I find a way to overcome them. Being healthy for my family so I can be there for them (not to mention look good for them) is what keeps me going if I start to question. It also keeps me in a much clearer state of mind, almost like meditation.
7707mutt keep up the great work and thanks for the inspiration.

Great post... and I agree with the health and being there for your family...
The whole health/fitness thing is a lifestyle change you have to be willing to make. It took me a long time to get the motivation to do it, and now I don't want to stop. It's addicting!
Only one person can make a change in your life and it's yourself....
