I recently started a program here and part of my routine this week is chin ups. I can't even do 1 chin up. What are some other exercises that may help me work up to this one, specifically targeting the same muscles? What's the best way to train myself to eocme strong enough for this exercise? Thanks!

I substitute the machine pulldowns for the chinups. It's the same motion, only the machine has lower weights than your body weight.

The other thing is to do one chinup at the beginning of your workout. Do this EVERY time you workout. You will eventually be able to do two, then three, and so on.

You may also want to put a bench under you and use your legs to push off. Or have a partner hold your legs. Continue to do this concentrating on your upperbody. Eventually, you will be able to pump a couple out without the leg supports.

Good Luck and keep trying.
