Can anyone give me any suggestions. I have free weights at home but no bar to do chin up's. Are there any exercises to substitute this?

Try your local school or park. There are free chin up bars there...

Chin ups are definately the best back exercise there is. If you absolutely can't find a place to hang, though, substitute different variations of bent rows.

You can buy a chinup bar pretty much anywhere you can buy a set of weights. They only cost around $20. You insert it into your door-way so as long as you don't mind having a few screw holes in there, you're good to go!
