Follow the program, it will give you different exercises as you progress. Don't go so ow on those dips - that may be why your shopulder hurts, have someone check your form, if possible.
Dips work your chest, shoulders, all the stabilizers involved - if you have a routine that hits chest and shoulders from different angles, and triceps, you are hitting the same muscles.
