I really hit the gym hard last week. I did my weights. I had a goal I was gonna start being consistent. I was gonna break my 170lb barrior. So I hit the treadmill. I HATE THE TREADMILL. But my husband does and I thought if I could just get through I could do it. That week was awsome for me. I ran/jogged an entire mile for me a smoker that was hard I was sweatin. Okay now day 2 I pushed it I am tired of being over weight I thought so I hit it hard weights then Cardio. Damn treadmill. I did 1mile walked a little Okay lets do another mile. @ miles okay I was proud so proud. Day 3 I ran 2 walked one. Needless to say I continued this way till Friday was feeling good. The following Monday I thought I could do it again. WRONG Oh so wrong I hit that treadmill. My freakin Shins hurt so bad I couldn't do it. I couldn't push through it. I lap is all I could run. Walking quickly hurt. So I self diagnosed a little. Shin splints okay so now what. Well It said rest no more running for me. I pushed to hard now I pay the price. So Takin it easy on the treadmill. Will I ever hit that 2 mile run again. I hope so I couldn't even do that when I was in High school. Was a little discouraged. But I am determined to hit my goal. Will keep trying If anyone has advice I am open to it.
Thanks for lettin me Vent. |

Yeah don't push it so hard as MUTT says KISS-Keep It Simple Stupid, hey thats worked for me with your body weight the joints of your body and not prepared for that kind of shock, keep it simple and do HIIT instead of straight cardio i.e. if you are running a track walk fast for one lap, jog the next, walk the next Run the next switch it up keep the heart rate in the zone and then push it a little, don't kill it...as for you don't increase so much on the distance if you could only do one mile keep doing it til you get it faster and easier then step it up I went from 1 mile to 1.5 to 2.1 which is what i walk/run now sounds like you did what i started to til i came here jumped in with both feet but forgot you actually have to land safely, take it easy it won't come off that fast so dont push your body that hard-------------- Jason Fox 6'1" 380lbs Weight Goal 300 by april 2007 |

Go back but not so aggressive. You may want to use the ellipticle machine if one is available. Much more easier on the body, and burns more calories due to the fact you are using more of your body and you make it work.-------------- A little discipline at the table and at the gym might help reduce that belly! What i've done is i starting at 7km/h per hours for 5 mins running. then the next week did 10, then 15... then i started running 8km/h for 10, then 15, 9 km the same until i reached 10km/h. then i dropped my speed back to 7km/h and ran for 20 mins then 30.. when i reached that i was fit enough to start HIIT. HIIT is a fancy acronym that means instead of running at the same speed for 30 minutes change it around... do 7km/h for 3 minutes, then up it to 9km/h then 8 then 12, then 10, then 7 or whatever u feel best with.. incorporate sprints with a jog at ur steady pace.. garanteed 1: ull be less tired, 2: ull burn more calories...

Thanks I went back to last night. I am really a bad runner but I wanted to be able to do it. I think at this point other then the shin splints the fact that I smoke is holding me back to. I know i Should quit but that is beside the point. I hit the bike did 3 miles hard (for me anyways) But it doesn't burn as many calories. I did better when I did the treadmill for 30 minutes the first 3 laps were rough. I ran for as long as I could which wasn't long. But the more I did it the less it hurt. I also tried some of the stretching excersises I've read about for the shins that seemed to help. I am not really good at this cardio. I think its lazy ness. or maybe I don't want it bad enough to suffer the pain. What I think I need is a drill sargeant to stand behind me and yell at me. My husband is to busy sweating himself to death :) next to me to be a drill sargeant. And the trainers cost to much and really aren't worth it. Okay thanks for listen to me whine. Thanks for all the advice too. I love this place and I 've only been visiting for 2 days.

frnchfry, I'd suggest you set yourself a cardio "routine". Set some kind of a goal...like running for 30min non stop at a certain pace (if using treadmill to track pace). Then break that long term goal into smaller ones each week. So maybe start by running 10min, walk 2min/run 10min/walk 2min. Set your running pace at something just above your comfort zone. Each week challenge yourself a bit more...say run 12 min/walk 2 etc, etc. I just have a feeling if you keep going the way you are, you are either going to injure yourself or you'll get demotivated. This way, everytime you go to do cardio, you have a routine already set for you. You could also vary it by doing the bike one day, run one day and something different on a third day...or whatever... You should think about trying to do cardio 3X/week and on your off cardio days lift some wts!! Hope this helps!-------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there. -------------- The harder you fall, the higher you bounce |

Thanks,
I tried routine, For me it seems routine never works. I go in with a routine in mind and never follow through. For me its like I need a constant change I think I have ADD (LOL)I do lift weights I just started the weight deal from here. I am on my third day I do cardio everyday that I am at the gym. 5-6 days a week. The weights I have from here are only 2 to 3 exercises. But I always feel it the next day. Any ways I have been told by the trainer at the gym that I needed to do 35-45 minutes of intense cardio to lose weight, But now from some of the reading I have done I am confused about that. I have always done the weight lifting though since I started this in March. But Cardio is so so so so boring. I was doing the Kickboxing class at the gym And I loved it to me it was fun And I loved having the person up ther pushing me. But the times are not convenient for my husband he wants to go straight from work to the gym. which is 300 the class is at 530 which is what time we leave the gym. I've try to keep up pace with my husband on the treadmill which he runs for 5 min walks BRISKLY for 5 mins and he does this until he hits 3 miles. But it bores me I swear I have ADD or something. Thanks for the help. I think you hit it with challenge myself it is something I haven't really done. |

if you belong to a gym see if they have spinning classes...thats the best because you are in a group environment that cardio is killer and usually have a pumped instructor egging you on
