I have recently read that cardio "doesn't speed up fat loss...it can actually retard the reduction of fat. Fat loss is retarded..by too much repetative activity which prevents muscle building by using up your recovery ability. A well rested recovery is necessary for muscle growth" This comes from my bowflex Q&A section in the owners manual.
I have 2 questions about this..
1) I do cardio 30 secs @ 100% and 30 secs @ 50% for a total fo 20mins. Does this way of doing cardio promote fat loss or reduces its affects on fat loss as in the statement in the manual?
2) I do cardio 4times per wk one week and the second week I do 2 cardio sessions. I weight train 5 days per week. I find on the wks. I do cardi 4times per week my breathing is faster (In a good way). On the weeks I do cardio twice, my breathing slows down. I feel that when I breath faster, it is indicating that my metab.is higher. What do you make of this and the statement from the bowflex manual? My goal is to find the appropriate amount of cardio to do with my weight training mto enhance fat loss not disable it. I am a woman who need would like to lose 10 lbs. Am exercising to lose that weight and maintain my tone that I have from my weight training.
You're overthinking things. If anything, you might be able to cut back since your doing intervals instead of steady state, but I don't think it will negatively affect you.
