I plan on incorporating cardio into my workout in a few months when I inaugurate my cutting phase. I wanna place myself in the best cardio conditionng I can. Now, I haven't done it in 6 months or so, so I know I'll be out of shape. But there was a show about ultimate fighters on TV the other day that I started watching for some reason (probably remote-searching laziness) where the competitors were asked to run 5 minutes consecutively at 5 mph, 6, mph, 7... up to 10 mph. Many of them couldn't do it. I know I could probably do up to 7, then it's downhill from there. I'm lucky if I could do more than 1 minute on 10.

So, how do I condition myself to be able to do that and then some without pushing myself to the point of vomitting or the point of dreading future workouts. I know if I make the cardio too hard I won't do it. I really have to approach gradually, but I don't know what I should do, keeping in mind that I will be trying to cut some bodyfat as well.
Should I do sprints? HIIT? Steady pace? For how long?
Also, as a point of interest, why do we vomit if we push ourselves too hard? Whats the physical cause of the vomitting?

If you aren't doing any cardio at the moment, I would suggest building up a base by doing short (20minute) steady paced workouts to begin with.
If you are already doing this, then you could look at HIIT.

I have recently read about MIIT (medium intensity interval training), where you do e.g.4 minutes at a level above your steady pace level, but not flat out like in HIIT, then 3mins recovery, doing 3 or 4 cycles like this.
I am finding it quite helpful to build up towards doing HIIT again.

I would also be interested to know if anyone else has done this, or knows anything more about MIIT.

If you haven't done any cardio in 6 months (shame on you), you need to build up to it again gradually.

20 minutes a few times a week, then gradually add minutes each week. Alternate from workout to workout what zone you exercise in, and throw in HIIT occasionally, too. Just mind that you are not overexerting and overtraining - you will fatigue your heart and not get into any better shape.

The reason I haven't been doing cardio is because I have been in an attempt to bulk up, so I didn't want to burn excess calories.

How can I tell if I am overexerting my heart? I definitely don't wanna do cardio for no reason.
