I need to lose quite a bit of weight. I had lost 200# doing just cardio, but have gained back about 80 for a few different reasons. Anyway, I am back on the losing track, but have decided to do weight training this time as well because I just ended up skinny last time and didnt really like the way I looked. Here's my question...
I have heard that you shouldn't do cardio and weights during the same workout. Any thoughts? If I'm not suppose to can I at least do it the same day? And if not, what problems does doing them the same workout or day cause?

I do both weights and cardio when I workout - I haven't heard that it is bad for you. I do make sure that I do my cardio after the weight training though - you can loose more fat that way (has to do with the way your body burns fats/carbs)
Also, cardio can be done much more often than weights - your body needs to repair itself after lifting so a day break between weight workouts is recommended.
Hope this helps

If it's convenient where you work out, you can also do them at the same time with circuits. Do one or two of your weight exercises, then hop on a machine and blast five minutes with some intense cardio. Do another weight exercise, etc... You can even mix up the cardio with different machines, just make it as intense as your energy level allows. Also, keep your heart rate up with your weights by not resting too much between sets. The time really flies by, plus you get an excellent fat-burning workout. This is much easier to do on upper body days though. I've done it on leg days a couple of times and my legs really felt like rubber when I left the gym.

I usually do a 6min cardio machine first. Followed by stretching then my weights. You will benefit wiht cardio more doing it after your weight workout.
I do have days (especially nice weather) where I will go out and jog for 1h etc.

I heard do weights first because you're usually too tired after a cardio workout to really concentrate on the muscle your working with weights.

Nothing wrong with doing your cardio after your weight training. MOst people do it that way. I do it before but that is my form of warming up also and that's just me.
