I just started to work out about a week ago. My goal is to lose weight and tone. I read in my exercise program that I should be doing at least 30-45 minutes of cardio 3 times per week in order to lose weight, as well as my split. I was wondering if 20 minutes of cardio 5 times per week will work just as well? thanks!

Good answer Ravenwolf.

5 times 20 min of cardio weekly will help you burn more calories so yes it'll work, but for "directly" fat burning you'll need to do at least 35-45 mins in one row.

HIIT will give you good results though and three times a week would be enough.

I just searched for HIIT and could only find two posts in the archives both posting to this site:
http://www.musclemedia.com/magazine/v69/HIIT.asp

The writer instructs only three sessions a week. Would that be as beneficial as five 20 minute jogs?

I would say if you were doing HIIT. There are good posts on here in the archives about this. Check them out. Welcome to the site.
