The more processed it is, the sipler it is. Vegetables and whole grains and beans are complex. refined flour, sugar, anything with more sugar than fiber is simple. Some fruits are more complex than others, like apples and most berries.
Most foods you eat should be whole foods, which I guess now they do label vegetables, I was going to say most of the food you eat shouldn't be labeled, but most is now.
When looking at alabel, read the ingredients, if sugar is one of the first it is pretty high in sugar, also corn syrup, fructose, dextrose, maltose are all types of sugar. Labels list ingredients by amount - the first thing listed is what there is the most of.
When reading the nutrition breakdown - the carbs should come from fiber, not sugar. If it lists a certain number of carbs and the same grams of sugar, all the carbs come from sugar.
After a workout you want a mix of simple carbs and protein to get into your muscles fast. There have been many previous posts on these subjects, so I won't go into depth.
Check out fit buddy at the bottom of the screen - you can type in key words and it will pull up posts on the sunject.
