i am on the 12 week mass program. when doing dumbell presses for chest(only on the set i did 12 reps) i experienced an incredible burning in my forearms. i got the twelve but i felt i couldnt do anymore because of my forearms. is this normal? it didnt happen on the sets with lower reps.

Presses shouldn't involve your forearms to the point of burnout. Try loosening your grip on the weights a bit, that may be all you need to do.

I had the same feeling when I first started lifting heavy weights. Loosening your grip will help a lot. I also needed to do wrist curls to build up my strength in the forearms and help condition them for stamina.
