I bruise REALLY badly and they last sometimes 1+ month. The worst ones are on my legs. I do take vitamin supplements. I also have this one "bruise" on my right quadricep that turned into a "dent" and is still sore, and I've had it for months... do I just have bad circulation or am I lacking something in diet??

hmmm... I want to say an iron supplement may help, but not 100% sure.

have you ever been tested for diabetes? That is one of the signs for it. People that bruise easily, and the bruises take a long time to heal really should be checked.

Most of the time, bruising is nothing to worry about. However, I can see why you are concerned. You might want to do some research on blood disorders such as Hemophilia and Von Willebrand Disease. Most often, these are genetic and can be treated with medications.

Good Luck!

I do take Iron, and as for diabetes, I haven't been tested, I think, but I have had my fasting glucose measured... is that the same?? And as for the other ones how do they test for those??

If your fasting glucose is OK, you don't have diabetes.
The other conditions would need a different blood test.

Have your doctor screen for the following:

o Bleeding disorders
o Hemophilia
o Von Willebrand's disease
o Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
o Immune disorder
o Leukemia
o anemia
o Disseminated intravascular coagulation
o Scurvy

Get on some vitamin C 1000mg a day. It will help.

budfox, I don't mean to be rude, but if Puresnowchic's bruising that she had on August 24th was caused by disseminated intravascular coagulation, do you really think she'd still be here to read your post?

princesslodgey, that's a pretty big "if". DIC, rather uncommon disorder.

sorry, I'm not trying to be a smart arse. I know you were trying to be helpful, but sometimes we need to be a little cautious about the advice we offer.

I felt that suggesting puresnowchic ask her doctor for a test for DIC was not helpful - because she may do an internet search, read about DIC and spend a lot of time worrying unecessarily that she has it and what the consequences are, before she gets to see her doctor.

Clearly if it was even a remote possibility (which I don't think it was) then she shouldn't be at her doctors anyway, she should be in hospital.

"sorry, I'm not trying to be a smart arse." No your being a DUMB ARCE!

"I felt that suggesting puresnowchic ask her doctor for a test for DIC was not helpful"

Listen, you don't know DIC! I listed a differential and that was it. Any doctor would start at the most likely cause and move on to the next. What type of medical practitioner are you again?

No, you didn't list a differential, what you said was :

" Have your doctor screen for the following:"

and included in your list was DIC.

Personally I think that it would be negligent to "screen" for DIC -
if you think it is a serious consideration, then you shouldn't be running a blood test for it, you should be admitting the person concerned to hospital. If you don't think it is a serious consideration, then testing for it could constitute assault.

Sorry about all this Puresnowchic :)

On certain occasions I have seen people say "it might be this..." and throw in possible diagnoses. Normally one would receive this information in a situation where a trained professional was available to answer any questions or worries the person involved might have. This is obviously not the case on a message board, and there is much greater scope for misunderstandings, which was why I intially objected to the post of differentials.

I don't want this to turn into a silly fight over a rare condition, and I apologise, BudFox,if that's what it has turned into, I meant no offense.
