The scale indicates there are 90lbs less of me now, factor in my muscle gains which should be somewhere between 20-30lbs I've lost a considerable amount of weight total and a built a much more athletic body. However my abdominals have really been neglected through all of this. I learnt new excersizes, better form, and changed my work outs for other muscles considerably since the beginning as my knowledge base grew. This is true for all muscle groups except abdominals! Right now all I do is pump out about 100 sit ups, 10-15 leg lifts. I can feel and see my abs are slacking compared to the rest of my body due to my rather simplistic approuch.
I'm not really all that interested in "six pack abs" I just want to dramatically increase the strength of my adbominal muscles. I tried using the search and was just overwhelmed on the amount of posts made by early teenagers posting essentially saying, "hey wut is the best way to get a 6pack. I want a 6pack because it is good. I don't know how to get one HELP ME!!!!!!" Then somone responds, "fill out your profile", then somone jokes about picking a six pack from the liquor store and then the thread dies. Where is this FT abdominal routine some threads mention?
Sorry for making a new thread and continuing to beat that long dead horse but there are just so many uninformative threads on the subject and most of them offer no content because my guess is the FT regulars got tired of answering the same question over and over. (I hope I don't sound too harsh  )
I believe I have filled out my profile, or at least the one the free membership gives. (I really gotta upgrade, I've been using this site as a resource for the past 8 months, just more of a lurker)
If you can give some suggestions on how to build balanced, strong, and firm abs I'd really appreciate it.

training your abdominals involves much more than you are doing. you can do situps until you are blue in the face, and never develop a sound core. speaking of core, the muscles you want to train in your midsection include the upper and lower rectus abdominus, the obliques, your spinal erectors, and your transverse abdominus. you need to strike a balance between all your muscles in your core for an effective abdominal foundation. this work will carry over to your other workouts as well, providing additional stability and balance to other activities.
now, i follow the notion that you dont need to do 100 situps everyday, etc. to develop a nice midsection. it is like any other bodypart, it needs rest to grow and needs to be challenged to keep growing. add resistance to your routines if they are getting too easy, switch up manoeuvers, etc. there are an abundance of exercises to target all the muscles i mentioned earlier, so again, search fitbuddy or the net (i gotta go so cant list em all ) hope some of this helps, good luck

Rather than doing endless sit ups and leg lifts, add some weight and do a lot less volume. Your abs are lacking because of how you are training them. They are just like any muscle group, phasic and predominantly fast twitch.
Would you do 100 curls a day and expect results? I hope not. Train your abs more like you train the rest of you body, and then you will see results.
-------------- The best feeling in the world is the feeling you get after a tough set of squats after you step back from the power rack and throw up all over the floor.
