Has anyone ever heard of this?? Here is a description of how to do it. Stand holding a light barbell at your shoulders, as if you were going to do a military press, press the weight until it clears your head, then lower it behind your neck, without pausing press it back up until it clears your head, and lower it to the starting position, that is one rep. I saw this in a mag. and thought to try it next time at the gym to mix up my shoulder workout a little, when i was doing it I heard some older guy say to another guy that, young guys dont know how to work out, that kid is just going to mess up his rotory cuffs. I know he was talking about me there wasnt anyone else around. Should I not do this exercise? I dont want to screw up my shoulders, but I figured if they put it in a mag. and said it is good, as long as you do it right, it would be a good workout for the shoulders.

generally speaking, it's not a great idea to lower weight behind ur neck, either with barbell shoulder presses or pulldowns, it increases your chance of a shoulder injury...

Thanks for the advice. Guess I'll stick with keeping the weights in front of me. This site is great, these boards can keep you busy for weeks reading everything. My brain gets quite a workout coming to his site.

If its done right, it ok I think. Thing is to be LIGHT and not have to strain any. Say you can rep 135 for 8 reps regualr military......I wouldn't go over say 120lbs. Behind the neck mil. ,to me, seem to work more my shoulders, than tris. THing is to mayeb do several sets of the bar(45lbs) to warm up and stretch, as not to strain anything, any discomfort, dont' do it.
I stop behined the neck pressing at about my bottom of ear, then press up, just short of lockout back down.
