I have a cable machine with a sit up bench press and I was wondering if it would help any muscles by doing it backwards. So you are pulling the weight too you instead of pushing it away from you.

Doing the motion backwards is essentially a cable row. It works your a portion of your lats called the scapulae retractors. Make sure to pull your shoulder blades together as you go through the motion.
