Bench Press Routine

I got a e book about a week ago about a bench press routine where you are supposed to add up to 50lbs on your bench in 3 weeks. So i was reading over the routine and it says you have to do bench press only for chest, triceps & shoulders for three weeks straight, taking off saturdays and sundays. You have to follow diffrent rep ranges everyday from as high as 15 to as low as 2 reps. Does anyone think that this program is a good idea to start? Also last Monday I recorded a new bench press weight at 325lbs for my max. A increase of 10lbs.

Variation is the key most definitely. I don't know exactly what your book entails but it sounds on the right track. Does it suggest to lift heavy at 8-10 reps at any point in that routine? Pyramids?

Well for example, Monday would be 10reps,8,6,4,2 increasing weight on every set. The next day would be 5 sets of 15 starting with the heaviest possible weight for 15 than dropping a few pound each set after. There is also specific rest periods in the program from 5 minutes to as low as 1 minute.

I'm always skeptical on anything that can provide you with that much strength gain in that short a period. You may find that at the end of the 3 weeks that your gains are nowhere near 50 lbs.

But keep us updated of your progress.

That routine will break you down. 50 lbs in 3 weeks? If you take the S vitamin maybe.

What you posted about that routine sounds nuts. Even the best benchers don't train more than twice a week, and those are two totally different regimens. Sounds like just major over training...

Check out some of the posts I have on Speed benching and benching. I do speed bench on Sundays and max effort bench on Wednesdays. Don't confuse Max Effort with 1RM. Check out www.elitefitnesssystems.com and www.westside-barbell.com
There are some great articles on being a big bencher and squatter. Don't forget the legs.
