hi everyone , im new , and full of questions but really , i need help with this one - ok, i have my workout plan , say set 1 is for 20 reps , then set 2 is for 15 reps , now, i know that i am supposed to add weight on every set , but what if i am not able to hit a certain number of reps , do i not add weight , or do i do what i can and try next week. next-- how much do i add on each weight set, 5 lbs or so ?. last one - am i supposed to be able to increase in weight every week, man , im sorry guys and gals , i know this isnt rocket science , but it sure seems hard to get this train rolling. thanks for your patience --steve

Just put on the amount of weight so that you struggle quite a bit for the last rep and wouldn't be able to do anymore.

This applies for every set, every week. Some times you may have to go down in weight if you are still tired.

I actually dont go up in weights for my sets because I find that I'm too tired from the first set to be able to do all of the next set with additional weight.

Did I confuse you?

First set of 20 reps is a warm up set use a realy light weight. Then Add as you go. If you can not add to each set you are starting to heavy....just takes a little time is all to get the body used to lifting...

Well to "bulk up", I believe the rep range is from 5-8 repetitions for every set. Go as heavy as possible with good form and make the weight heavy enough so that you are struggling with the last couple of reps and so you wouldn't be able to do any more. Wow I just realized that I quoted koi_saisei. Hope this clears something out. Just like you said, it's not rocket science, just go as heavy as possible with good form and it doesn't matter if you can't get that last repetition out, your muscles are still being put under lots of stress if you can't get the last one up.
