In order to reduce stress, pressure and muscle tension on my lower back, I am using a home device called Backlife.
It is performing Continuous Passive Movement and I use it twice a day for 12 minutes each session. It is easy and
comfortable to exercise with. It relieves back pain and improves stability. Check it out at www.backlife.com

My smarta44 response - In order to reduce stress, pressure and muscle tension in my lower back, I am using a device called exercise.
It is performing progresive workouts that stregthen and stabilize my core and my entire body. i use it once a day for 30-45 minutes.
It isn't easy, but why would I think it should be? It does relieve/prevent low back pain and improve stability (and prevent osteoporosis, cardiovascualr diseases, many lifestyle related diseases). Check it out wherever you choose to parttake in your fitness routine.

LauraSun - I hope you aren't just advertising here, but anyhow, welcome to F. I won't delete your post because then my smartypants answer wouldn't be so witty.

If you have a bad back - any of you - there is no reason to buy a gadget or machine - there are plenty of lowback strengthening exercises that don't require equipment, and some exercise everyday will really make a diference. i have worked with many clients who, previous to training with me, believed that they couldn't exercise because of their back. Your body is amazing in its ability to rehabilitate, it just takes time and patience and consistency. If a doctor or physical therapist gives you exercises to do for you low back - keep up with them. most people I come into contact with who have low back problems have a list of exercises, but stopped doing them when they felt better.

Isn't "passive movement" an oxymoron? You know, like "deafening silence."

I thought asimmer's post was both informative and delightful. Thank you asimmer for that overview of back pain alleviation and why gadgets are stupid.

Additionally, opportunities in which we can truly be a smarta$$ are few and far between and I think asimmer performed beautifully here. I'm giving her an overall score of 10/10.

Last, but not least, let us not turn our noses up at the rare opportunity to examine the oxymoron in it's natural habitat. Morons are easy to find, oxymorons are not.

back extensions, on the floor to start with. Supermans, alternating opposite arm and leg, cat/cow stretch. Let me see if i can find a website with these on it for you, i will post a link if i find one, otherwise I will describe how to do them for you.

Quoting from asimmer:

back extensions
=============

Is that the same as hyperextensions?

I already do those and seated cable rows for lower back.

hyperextensions, but only to level with your body when on a back extension stand. Or do them lying down - they are gentle, not brute strength exercises.
