mmmmmmmmmmmmfire fighters...err...mmmpeanut butter I mean... there is just something about a ruggedly built guy in a firefighter suit. :surprised:
seriously though, try asking for your local fire department guys, they have really strenuous drills that require mental strength as well as physical strength. I mean, think about lugging that hose about to goodness knows where, and think about how much water that will pump through it, and how heavy. Plus heat..plus dangers and hazards.
But i still think firemen rock. I'm gonna ask santa for a fireman since I've been such a nice girl.

fire school is very, very demanding. i'm not a firefighter, but it is on my list of careers that i want to take part in before i die. you've got to be in excellent cardiovascular condition and leg strength is a big help. really overall body conditioning is a good way to go in preparing for firefighter training.
oh, and you need to have a high heat tolerance.

David at one time I had huge delusions of grandeur and was going to try for a place on our volunteer fire department. They were very supportive and encouraged me to try, but I had tremendous difficulty with the training. You won't.
Going from memory of the sheet they gave me and bearing in mind that this is a volunteer force, not a big city force, they advised me to do the following:
Practice removing ladder from on top of the firetruck (firestation is next door so I had access 24-7 to practice, but I'm 5'3" with not much upper body strength and the truck is really tall)
Practice carrying the ladder (weighed about 50lbs) for 100 yards.
Practice carrying 35lbs up and down the bleachers on the high school football field.
Be able to haul 35lbs of hose up the back of the bleachers.
Practice pushing a small car across the high school parking lot to build up leg strength (I think)
Be able to move reasonably well wearing full gear including Scott(?) air packs.
Be able to navigate, on the floor, a smoke filled room wearing blacked out face mask.
Stuff like that. Good luck, I know you will be successful.
