Ok, this might sound strange but how soon after waking up should I be doing my AM Cardio/Workout? I am a housewife so I don't have any real time restrictions. My main question is do I need to do it right away after getting up or do I have time to sit down with my morning cup of coffee and watch the latest rerun of Charmed?

Hi Kyrah,
Really it's up to you! If your comfortable with that, then there is no need to rush. Have a cup of joe, and watch your show no harm in that. Give yourself a little time to wake up before you work out, I do!!:):dumbbell:

My suggestion is to get up go workout. You'll have more energy throughout the day if you do. Make sure youre including a good breakfast. If youre only doing cardio you can do that then eat breakfast. Make sure youre getting your protein after your weight lifting. Good luck.

Actually Kyrah, I sit with my coffee, get the kids off to school, do a little computer work... then off to the gym.. I don't like being rushed..I do it all, and am back home usually by 10 am to do my housewife stuff. It works fine for me.. I also notice I have more energy to do the housework etc after I get back from the gym.

Is Pilates considered cardio or what? It's not really weight training as I don't use anything but my body weight. . . anywho that is what I tend to enjoy doing for my morning workout to get the blood flowing for the day.

weight training includes many exercises that use your body weight only for resistance. With Pilates, you are using specific core muscles to support your weight through the movements.

I don't know what tapes you use (I have Mari Windsor, and have had personal instruction), but some routines have a slower, more concentrated focus, while others are a 30-60 minute high energy routine that can feel like Cardio because you're getting winded.

Great core strengthening.. and you can probably move into a nice 20 minute HIIT session after that.

I have the Mari Windsor as well though can only make it through the 20 minute workout. I don't want to try to more advanced one till I can conquer the basic one w/o being all sore and shaky legged afterwards  Though I am doing much better at it than when I first started! Sometimes I alternate it with TaeBo depending on my mood, both get my heart rate up and make me sweat so I guess I'm doing something kinda right.

It's tough! Remembering to keep your form (shoulders down, belly sucked in, back and limbs stretched long) throughout each set is mental as well as physical, too.

Hopefully you are feeling a burn in the abs, quads, or hamstrings in particular while performing the series that corresponds in addition to your heart rate and body temp increases..

You're already doing the work, get the maximum benefit out of it!

To encourage you about your AM workouts.....
I get up around 1:45am for work and the first thing I do when I get out of bed (and change clothes of course) is hop on my elliptical machine for 30 min. That machine is the best $500 investment I've ever made. I do my first cardio in the AM, lift in the late morning or afternoon (whenever I get off work) and then finish off with either a 30min run or another 30 min. on the elliptical. After doing this for routine for 3 weeks now (4-5 days of cardio and 5 days of lifting, and at least 3 days out of those 4-5cardio days I'll do cardio 2x a day), I can already tell how much better my clothes fit. I have a ton more energy and I can see realy physical results that I've never seen before.

Keep it up, because I can vouch for the the results!!!
