Hi Folks,
First time posting, love the site. I started back the second week of Jan. with a FT weight loss workout for beginners/interm. After that 8 week program, I upped it to advanced and have really been working hard...which brings me to my question.
I have read a lot about when/how much/what to eat today on here and have decided I probably should change a few things.
I was doing a 900 cal. burn on the eliptical (30+ min.), first thing in the morning followed immediately by my full resistance training routing for the day per my FT schedule. All on an empty stomach.
I have lost close to 15 pounds (30 or so to go), but seem to have stalled. I am noticing decent muscle gains though, which is nice and feels good.
From reading today, I figured I'd try:
1) Protein shake before workout.
2) Lift first
3) Slow down on the cardio machine and try to maintain a lower HR.
4) Whey protein shake after workout, Milk before bed

I guess my question really is, is there anything else that will help me lose the weight without risking muscle loss? I hat the thought of losing muscle after working my butt off like I have been.
Thanks in advance, I really value your opinions on this!!

Your changes should be welcomed by your body. What you were doing certainly caused a weight loss, had to be extremely catabolic.

the shake before your workout will help, a meal would be better. Check out the "cardio and fat burn" thread in the intermediate and advanced weight training forum. Do the shake post workout like you mentioned with some simple sugars, drink 1/2 right away then sip the rest over about 30 minutes. Not sure why you having the milk before bed. It's good that your re-evaluating your eating. Even without seeing your diet I can gaurantee you lost some muscle prior to now just from the sentence "All on an empty stomach". You should see start seeing better results. It's a learning process. Good luck.

Thanks! The milk was in response to something I read by asimmer that talked about the need for a slow burning protein that will help protect muscles overnight. If this is not neccessary, I could probably save myself the calories.

I wouldn't cut it out until Amy verified the thread. I have fat free cottage cheese but just because that's what I've always had. Depending on the "type" of milk you have, I geuss it could work just as well, digestion time is very similar.
