Just found this forum and it looks great. Hoping someone can help me out. I'm 5'11 and weigh about 183. I'm okay with my size except for my stomach. I have a bit of a belly and I'd like to get rid of it. Not necessarily looking for a Mr. universe 6-pack but would like a flat stomach.
So my question is what would be the most effective method to get achieve it. Diet, exercise or both? And if diet what kind...low carbs, low fat, low cals? Also if exercise what kind...cardio, Abs, both, neither?
I've read some books and articles and many seem to contradicate each other on what should be done so I'm hoping someone can enlighten me w/ a plan...Thanks in advance for any help.

You want to lose fat. That's why they say abs are made in the kitchen. Regardless of the type of diet you follow it boils down to creating a caloric deficit. Expend more than you consume. Sign up for the 8 week ab program here at ft to go along with your diet. Good Luck

Thanks for the quick reply. Just a couple of followup questions:
Are you saying it doesn't matter what I eat as long as I expend more calories than I intake? I keep reading articles that say to lose fat you need only worry about the carbs you eat, others say not to worry about the carbs but just the calories and yet others say to only worry about the fat grams...needless to say I am totally confused. So I just want to make sure what I can and can't eat in order to lose fat.
Second, how can I count the calories I expend when I'm not on a treadmill or a machine that keeps track for me?
Sorry for all the questions but like I said I am totally confused. :(

carbs dont count unless u want to follow the atkins diet, which is, as everyone knows, a way to TEMPORARILY lose weight. As soon as you go off it, you gain back more weight than you lost. Cutting calories is what cuts fat.

To see your abs, you have to have a very low BF%. This means you need to look at your Diet closely, and also start to up your Cardio per week. You will need to loose some Fat, while keeping your Current muscle mass, so combine Cardio with your Weight routine. Also I'm am not sure what you are doing for Abs now, but if you want to have them pop out, I suggest working your abs with weight. Instead of doing 300 Crunches, do 3-4 Sets of 15, with 10-25lbs on your stomach, or use the Ab Machine, or my Fave would be Cable Crunches..they give you a great burn!

Well i have been basically been on a good low carb diet for about an year. bb1 posted a list with what kind of food ppl should be eating, i printed that list out, ate the right stuff and now my abs are beggining to show. But if you want to have good well built abs, you also have to train them, i train them 4-5 times a week, every 8 weeks i take a week off too, which is very important, becuase your muscles grow when they rest not when you are at the gym!! i do crunches, twisting crunches, heel touchers, leg raises, reverse crunches and a bit more, but the ones i have listed seem to be the best abs exercises if you ask me!!! Don't forget that, if you want to have the good body you should train all your muscles, don't just do abs 7 days a week!!!! And another important thing that bigandrew has also stated is train your legs, your body looks a whole lot better when you train the WHOLE body. Train hard and eat right!!!
